On Sunday 25 March, William Nightingale joined the Cathedral team as a verger.
Here are a few words from William:
“Hello there! My name is William Nightingale and I am looking forward to working at the Cathedral as the new verger.
I am 49 and have lived in Bolton all my life. I attended Markland Hill Primary School followed by 7 years at Canon Slade School in Bolton. I have attended Christ Church, Heaton, since being young and over the years have held several positions there. A few of those positions are Altar Server, Lead Altar Server, Eucharist Assistant, PCC member, PCC secretary and Representative on Bolton Deanery Synod. From the age of 16 I regularly read Lessons and led the Intersessions during services. I was privileged to be part of services led by The Bishop of Manchester, The Bishop of Bolton and other Senior Clergy in the Manchester Diocese.
Away from church I am joining you all after just over three years working at Smyths Toys superstore in Bolton. I have had a variety of different roles in paid employment since leaving school.
I am a Bolton Wanderers supporter, attending my first game at the age of three! I enjoy many sports including cricket, horse racing and golf and I used to be a Qualified Football Referee. I also enjoy eating out and have an interest in local history.
I have a younger sister, Judith, who lives in Motherwell. Judith is married to Michael and they have two grown up daughters Barbara and Mary Kate.”
