On the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

Manchester Cathedral shares its deepest condolences with the Royal Family today following the news of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip. Our flag will be flown at half mast throughout the period of mourning and we remain open for those who wish to pray from 9.30am to 4.00pm each day.

The Very Revd Rogers Govender, Dean of Manchester, said: "Prince Philip and Her Majesty the Queen have visited Manchester Cathedral several times over the past decades.  I have fond memories of their last visit here in 2007 when she presented the Maundy Money to recipients.  We give thanks for The Duke of Edinburgh’s life and service to the nation and especially his affirmation of the young people of our country through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.  Many young people have been blessed through this scheme.  I send condolences and prayers to Her Majesty and the Royal Family in this time of mourning as we prepare to lay him to rest during this season of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. May he Rest in Peace and rise in glory!"

God of our lives,
we give thanks for the life of Prince Philip,
for his love of our country,
and for his devotion to duty.
We entrust him now to your love and mercy,
through our Redeemer Jesus Christ.
